Jeff Prace over at Plainsight Magic has released some truly great magic over the years. His newest release is a brand-new wallet that is particularly useful for one-head routines.

First off, this wallet looks and feels fantastic. It is made of genuine leather from Tarn, France, and each one is handmade. The quality is superb. It is a slim, minimal wallet with a very modern look. This isn't your grandpa's outdated checkbook wallet. While there isn't a place for cash, there are plenty of card slots to be able to carry credit cards or a few packet tricks with you at all times. It also contains an ID window which immediately makes the wallet seem "real" to me.

Essentially, this is a modern-day Himber wallet. The biggest advantage here is the ability to place something into a pocket and have it end up in the ID slot or vice versa. This allows for some really disarming one-ahead work.

The wallet comes with a 30-minute tutorial that contains a full performance of a card routine with a kicker ending of a prediction that contains the spectator's name, an introduction that explains how the wallet (and an included index) works and how to set your ID up in the wallet, a basic explanation of the one ahead principle with the wallet, the explanation of the full card routine as performed at the beginning (one with a special deck and one with an ordinary deck), how to use the wallet in the "reverse" way, setting up your wallet for multiple routines, how to add a date to a prediction to further hide the one-ahead principle, how to use a paperclip to further hide the one-ahead, how to use the wallet for a full business card peek, how to use the wallet for a card-to-wallet routine, and final thoughts. There's also a performance of a "phone trick" that isn't explained, but it's easy enough to figure out once you understand the workings of the wallet. Jeff also credits the wallets and routines that have come before his and inspired his version

As a bonus, the wallet also comes with a takeout menu that can be used for Jim Steinmeyer's "Dining Out" routine. This routine can be used with the one-ahead principle to predict almost anything, or it can be used as a stand-alone piece.

The main routine taught is deceptive, and the overall functionality of the wallet is great. The one-ahead ideas are the highlight of the wallet, and with some thought, you'll see how you could add this to MANY routines you already do to get a free hit. I am going to road-test it at a gig next month, and I have a few ideas for routines that would work wonderfully with the wallet. The peek you can get with the wallet is good, but I prefer peek wallets that don't involve going back into the wallet for another business card. For that reason, I will stick with my current peek wallet. The card-to-wallet idea is the weakest in my opinion. I wouldn't buy the wallet for that functionality; there isn't a way to load a card discreetly into the wallet. For the card-to-wallet, you are still using the one-ahead principle, you're just doing it with a signed card.

Overall, I think you get a lot of value for your money. The wallet is clearly high quality, and the specific functionality of switching a business card that has been in "full view" the entire time in the ID window is a very strong idea that I've never seen before. The tutorial just touches the tip of the iceberg with the way it can be exploited.
